Yes, more an Asian campaign.
Unfortunately, an Asian campaign for a soccer team involves playing exhibition matches in Tokyo, so the sentence wouldn't have worked quite so well.
Alexander did beat the teams in modern day Turkey, and Turkey is a UEFA member, but it wasn't populated by people who we would recognise as Turks, so it is still a stretch, I fear.
